What is your take on an indo board? I am not talking about a workout with it but just plain old riding it. I have a lot of conference calls at the office and I ride/stand while I am on these calls. Does this fit anywhere in your program?
For us, this one falls under can’t hurt but might help…at least if you don’t fall off and take out an eye on the edge of your desk.
It seems inconceivable that balanjng devices won’t help with your balance in some way but don’t get too carried away with thinking that if you become a world champion Indo Boarder that will automatically transfer into surfing or paddling. To some degree, getting good on a glance board makes you good on a balance board. That balance will likely help with other areas of your life but you are still going to have to put in time on your SUP board, surf Board, skateboard, or whatever.
The bottom line so far is that you should go for it. Can’t hurt might help. Another, similar tool we like is to put a 2 x 4 or 2 x 6 across two balance discs and practice walking and/or your cross stepping. That maneuver might even have greater application for standing/walking on a SUP race board.
All of that said, the benefits of getting off your butt while you are on your conference calls might outweigh any balancing benefits you might have by walking or standing on balancing devices. You might have heard that “sitting is the new smoking.” Standing during the day has significant health benefits and you cannot sit all day then go paddle to offset all of that sitting.
The bottom line for us is that we have zero objection to working on your balance during the work day. As long as you do not fall it can’t hurt and might help. Even better – get a standing desk.
